 Arrival Procedures

ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL

Students may enter the school no earlier than 8:05.  No student should arrive before 8:05 because there is no adult supervision until that time.

Kindergarten students proceed to their classroom.

Students in Grades 1 - 5 proceed to gymnasium and gather by class.  Students sit quietly and having reading materials available while waiting to be escorted to their classrooms at 8:20.

Once dismissed, at 8:20 students proceed to their classrooms, teachers take attendance and lunch count.

8:30 Official start of school day.  Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 8:30.  Students must be accompanied by an adult and report to the main office to get a tardy slip.

 Dismissal Procedures

 DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

There are four dismissal procedures from school: bus students, walkers, after school programs, and early dismissal.

1.

Bus students: Students who ride school department buses gather in the auditorium to wait for their buses.  For obvious safety reasons it is extremely important for children to sit quietly while waiting for their bus to be called.  They exit quietly in a line to their buses under the direction of the school staff.  Unless we receive a note from the parent indicating a change in this routine, bus students must ride the bus.  We will NOT accept a student’s request to change their regular dismissal routine.

2.

Walkers: Students who are met by a parent or caregiver or walk home are dismissed through the Barrows Street door.  Unless we receive a note from a parent indicating a change, walking students must follow this routine.  Do not drive through or park in the parking lot; it is exclusively for staff parking and school buses.

3.

After school programs: Students enrolled in the Hockomock YMCA After School Program are escorted to the gymnasium where attendance is taken by the YMCA staff.  (Hockomock School’s Out Program: 508.699.0919.)  Please notify the school office and the Y program if there is any change in your child’s regular dismissal routine.

4.

Early Dismissal: Occasionally, parents request that their child be dismissed early.

·         Parents must send a note to the office through the classroom teacher indicating the time of the dismissal.  Please remind your child to give the note to the teacher!  You may call the office in an emergency but do not leave a message on the answering machine.

·         The student will be called to the office when the parent or designated adult arrives.

·         No child will be dismissed unless picked up by a parent or designated adult LISTED ON THE EMERGENCY CARD.  (Please keep all emergency information current to avoid confusion.)

·         Students are dismissed ONLY from the office, not from the classroom or the nurse’s office.

·         The person dismissing the students must sign the dismissal log maintained in the school office and be prepared to show photo identification.

·         Because of the many important discussions and routines that take place in the classroom at dismissal time, we will not dismiss a child after 2:20 p.m. unless written notification had been given earlier.
